چکیده

In this work, the consolidation efficiency of SiO2 nanoparticles (synthesized in Chemistry laboratories at Tor Vergata University Roma) was tested on Pietraforte sandstone surfaces belonging to bell tower San Lorenzo (Florence, Italy) and fully investigated. Nanoparticles large-scale mass production) have been characterized by XRD—X-Ray Diffraction; Raman FTIR—Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy; SEM—Scanning Electron Microscopy; while morphology examined Porosimetry, capillary absorption test, surface hardness drilling resistance tensile strength. The colorimetric measurements were also performed characterize optical modification exhibited sandstones, especially after treatments. Our results show that applying Pietraforte, new consolidating agent based nanoparticles, has several advantages, as they are more resistant perforation, wear, abrasion even long range (for times exposure exercise against Florentine sandstone), compared CaCO3 (tested our previous paper), which instead excellent performance but only close their first application. This means over time, decreases, wear much easily (compared SiO2-treated tend exhibit quite a significant phenomena. experimental highlight kind (having low porosity specific calcitic texture) seems be higher terms water penetration protection, superficial cohesion forces, an increase resistance. Comparing with commercial consolidants solvents such Estel 1000 here), we demonstrate that: (A) restorative effects obtained time one week, significantly shorter when 1000, exceeding 21 days; (B) perform better than ensuring preservation color properties parent rock (without altering it application).
